Fire-Rated Joint Sealing in Brisbane

A linear gap seal finished in mastic where fire-rated wrap meets the underside of a concrete slab.

Fire Frog seals head-of-wall, slab edge, wall-to-wall and control joints in fire-rated construction to a tested system, so the compartment stays closed while the joint keeps its designed movement.

Each joint system is selected for the joint width, the backing material and the movement capability the joint needs, alongside the fire rating, and installed to the manufacturer's tested detail.

The work covers head-of-wall details where a fire-rated wall meets the underside of a slab or a deck, slab edge or perimeter joints at a curtain wall or facade, vertical joints where two walls abut, and control and expansion joints running through a rated element. Sealant, backing rod, compressed mineral wool and proprietary joint systems are used as the tested detail requires.

Joints run long and often at height, so access is planned into the job from the start. Each run is sealed to a tested system, recorded and certified, ready for inspection at handover.

Common questions

Why can a joint not just be filled with fire-rated sealant?

Because the joint has to keep moving. A tested joint system specifies the joint width, the backing behind the sealant and the movement percentage it was rated to. Filling a moving joint with a product tested static gives a seal that splits the first time the structure works, and a split joint carries no rating.

Do you seal joints at height?

Yes. Most head-of-wall work is at height by definition. Access is priced into the job rather than treated as a surprise, and it is the single biggest variable in what a long joint run costs.

Is joint sealing part of a certification package?

It can be. Joints installed by Fire Frog can be certified with the rest of the passive fire work on the project. Joints installed by others can be inspected and certified where they meet a tested system, or rectified first where they do not.
